Gold bars FAQ

1. What are gold bars used for?

Gold bars are NomStead's tradeable on-chain asset, built on Immutable. They are the bridge between in-game gold coins and the wider economy.

They provide a way to:

  • Export value from the game by converting gold coins into gold bars that can be traded with other players or exchanged for other assets such as USDC or ETH on external marketplaces.

  • Import value into the game by burning gold bars and converting them back into gold coins.

2. How does the gold bar furnace work?

The gold bar furnace is the only way to mint gold bars. Here is how the process works:

  1. A player buys a furnace blueprint for USDC from the studio.

  2. The player builds the furnace using in-game resources.

  3. The furnace owner sets their own minting fee.

  4. Another player pays gold coins to mint a gold bar through that furnace.

  5. Gold bars take time to produce. Each furnace has a limited daily production capacity.

  6. Furnaces have durability based on the number of gold coins converted through them and will require maintenance over time.

The minting infrastructure is entirely player-owned. The total production capacity of gold bars across the game scales naturally with the number of active furnaces in the world.

3. What does it cost to mint a gold bar?

Each gold bar has a fixed base value of 100 gold coins. However, minting one costs more than 100 gold coins due to two additional costs:

  • Burn: 20 gold coins are permanently destroyed on every mint.

  • Furnace fee: The furnace owner sets their own fee, up to a maximum of 10 gold coins.

The total cost to mint one gold bar will therefore be between 120 and 130 gold coins depending on the furnace used. The burn is permanent and does not go to the studio or any player.

4. How can players earn, sell, and use gold bars?

Gold bars can only be minted through gold bar furnaces using gold coins. Gold coins are earned through gameplay. The NomStead team will never mint or sell gold bars directly.

Players can buy and sell gold bars on external marketplaces such as TokenTrove. An in-game trading interface is also planned for the future.

Gold bars can be used to import gold coins into:

  • NomStead Kingdoms, to purchase items and assets from the marketplace.

  • NomStead Stadiums, to purchase equipment and place skill-based wagers during matches.

Gold bars are also planned as a payment option for official store purchases.

5. How will supply and the economy be controlled?

Gold coin generation is controlled through gameplay. NomStead determines how gold coins flow into the economy, which is the primary upstream control on gold bar supply.

Gold bar production is then regulated by the furnace system. When demand is strong, players are motivated to build and maintain more furnaces, increasing production capacity. When demand falls, fewer players will build new furnaces, naturally slowing production growth.

Because gold bars are issued as NFTs, additional supply-control mechanisms such as staking can also be introduced over time if needed.

6. What prevents a furnace monopoly?

Several mechanisms are in place to reduce the risk of any single player controlling a large share of production:

  • Minting limits per wallet.

  • High construction costs in both USDC and in-game resources.

  • Ongoing maintenance requirements tied to furnace durability.

As demand grows, the cost of building new furnaces may also increase, making large-scale accumulation more difficult over time.

7. What should players prepare before launch?

We want everyone to start on equal footing, so the exact resource requirements will not be published before launch.

Gold bar furnaces will be among the most expensive structures to build in the game. Players should focus on accumulating both basic and valuable resources and preparing their in-game economy ahead of June 26th.

8. Will players be able to buy items from the official store using gold bars?

Yes, this is part of our long-term vision.

The studio needs to continue generating USDC revenue to fund development, as we do not have external investors. Our goal is a balanced model where some products can be purchased using gold bars and others remain priced in USDC.

9. What will be the value of a gold bar?

Gold bars are tradeable assets. The market decides their value.
